2024 Public Servant
During Taiwan’s election season, I traveled by scooter from Taipei to Kaohsiung, documenting the abundance of campaign billboards that filled the streets. Each candidate wore a broad, friendly smile—but I found myself questioning the sincerity of these smiles. Are they genuine ? Is this their true face ? These doubts became the source of my creative inspiration. In this series, I use compressed perspective photography to insert myself into the space of the candidates’ billboards. By mimicking their expressions and gestures, I replace their faces with my own smile. This visual strategy prevents viewers from seeing the actual appearance of the candidates and instead invites them to question the intentions behind these campaign images. Through this substitution, I hope to provoke deeper thought about the potential dissonance between political imagery and reality.
